Problem
The patient presented with circular inflammatory lesions on all four feet two weeks after a cystotomy. The patient had been less ambulatory post-operative and had sat for prolonged times in urine and feces while hiding in his “Pigloo” enclosure

Signalment
“Oliver”, Guinea Pig, 4yr, Male, 1145gm

Procedure
Class IV Companion Therapy Laser was used once in conjunction with topical wound therapy.

Laser Settings
A Wound protocol at 1 Watt was used to deliver 3-4 Joules/cm2.

Outcome
Lesions on 3 of the 4 feet were completely healed within one week after treatment. No further therapy was needed.

Comments
Pododermatitis usually requires 2 to 3 weeks of both topical and systemic treatment. In advanced cases, surgical debridement is required. The inclusion of Class IV laser therapy shortened healing time and allowed reduced use of medications and surgery.
