Signalment
Feline, domestic cat, 5 year old, MN

History
The patient presented with a chronic lesion affecting the lip that had been present and recurrent for over a year. Prior treatment with oral prednisolone and a hypoallergenic hydrolyzed protein diet had been performed.

Diagnostics and Exam Findings
A chronic indolent ulcer affecting the left upper lip consistent with feline eosinophilic granuloma complex was found on exam.

Laser Treatment Details
20-25 J/cm2 was applied off contact at 3W using the small off contact treatment head

Frequency of Treatment
Twice weekly for 3 weeks, then once weekly for 2 weeks

Other Treatments
No medications were used during this treatment.

Outcome
The ulcer was resolved after 5 weeks of treatment, with the patient comfortable and no recurrence noted.

Comments
“This case demonstrates a complete and sustained resolution of a chronic eosinophilic granuloma complex lesion using photobiomodulation therapy alone, without any concurrent pharmacologic intervention. In light of the limited success of corticosteroids and dietary management in
this case, therapeutic laser offers a promising, drug-free alternative for the management of EGC, particularly in chronic or refractory cases.”
