Medical History
Maverick presented for a recurrent interdigital cyst. An antibiotic (Simplicef® 100mg x 14 days), diphendydramine, and epsom salt soaks were used. The cyst improved but when rechecked the next month, a new cyst appeared. A repeat antibiotic trial (Clavaseptin® 500mg x 21 days) was started. The cyst was still present three weeks later (~2 months after initial presentation) and the owner was considering surgical removal. Laser therapy was implemented. No other treatments were started.
Laser Treatment
352 joules were delivered at 2W to a 5X7.5cm˜ area (9.4J/cm˜). The large off-contact head was used.
Treatment Frequency
Six treatments were delivered over 11 days.
Other Treatments
E-collar
Patient Updates
During initial treatment with antibiotics, Maverick and his siblings were excessively licking the lesion. After two laser therapy treatments, visual improvement was seen and the licking stopped. After the 4th treatment, all redness and ulceration were resolved. Only a small scar remained after the 6th treatment. The cyst did not reoccur. Laser therapy allowed the cyst to resolve and surgical intervention was avoided.
