Cabela, a five-year-old, female, spayed, Labrador Retriever with no prior history of orthopedic disease, recently had her annual wellness check and was lucky enough to have access to the Stance Analyzer from Companion Animal Health. The Stance is an innovative mat that evaluates how a pet patient stands and shifts weight to identify if there is a lameness issue and where to look for it.
The Stance Analyzer detected that Cabela had abnormal weight-bearing percentages. After a subsequent orthopedic exam and radiographs, the vet discovered that Cabela had moderate to severe bilateral hip dysplasia. Companion Animal Health’s laser therapy and platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatments, as well as weight loss, were recommended, and medications were not prescribed. PRP is a minimally invasive solution for chronic orthopedic and soft tissue injuries that uses components of the pet’s own blood to heal.
