Signalment
Canine, 10 yo, F, Boxer/Terrier Mix, "Moxie"

History

The patient initially presented for a left rear lameness. Medications, supplements, and other therapies were implemented with some improvement, but the lameness persisted. Four months later, the patient became lame in the right rear limb as well.

Diagnostics and Exam Findings
On presentation, Moxie was toe touching lame on the left rear. Left stifle crepitus, medial buttress, and effusion were palpable. The left stifle was also positive for cranial drawer and tibial thrust. A full CCL tear was diagnosed. Four months later, Moxie presented with a right rear lameness and crepitus of the right stifle. There was no instability but a partial CCL tear could not be ruled out.

PRP and BMAC Treatment
2mls of PRP was injected into each stifle joint. Two months later, a second injection consisting of 2mls BMAC (bone marrow aspirate concentrate) and 2mls PRP was injected into each stifle joint due to lameness and pain persisting.

Other Treatments
Rimadyl, tramadoL and Adequan resulted in some improvement. No benefit was seen with amantadine and gabapentin was too sedating. The patient also took omega-3 and glucosamine supplements and received acupuncture

Comments
1 week after treatment with BMAC/PRP, Moxie's lameness was improving and there was more even weight distribution between the pelvic limbs. At rechecks 2, 4, and 6 weeks later, the limping had resolved and Moxie was believed to be doing very well. 7 months after treatment, the owner updated that Moxie was doing fantastic. The few times she was allowed to go up stairs, she did well even on questionable surfaces. The combo of treatments made a huge difference for Moxie and the owner is very happy surgery was avoided.
