Post-Op Amputation on Cat Healed with Laser Therapy

Signalment
Feline, 5-6 m/o, MN, Domestic Shorthair

History 
Po-tator was found as a stray and surrendered to HART. On presentation he was lethargic and limping on the rear left leg.

Diagnostics and Exam Findings 
Radiographs showed a fracture of the left femur. Amputation of the limb was performed with purulent discharge found at the fracture site..

Laser Treatment Details 
The Post-Operative Major protocol was used to deliver 5.8 J/cm2 off contact using the Large Non Contact Treatment Head.

Frequency of Treatment 
Po-tator received four treatments over the six days post amputation, starting immediately after surgery.

Other Treatments 
Cefazolin, Onsior, and Gabapenti

Outcome
At six days post surgery the skin was healed with no swelling noted, and the patient was doing well. Po-tator was adopted into his forever home by the vet assistant that took care of him during his recovery
