Degloving Necrotic Wound, Canine, "Dutchess"

Case and Photos courtesy of Dr. Eric Gutierrez, GOPET Hospital, Miami, Florida Signalment  Canine, 8 years old, female/spayed, American Bulldog, “Dutchess”. History  The patient presented after emergency care with an infected dog bite wound, where the recommendation for amputation had been made. Diagnostics and Exam Findings The open wound involved the distal tibia and tarsus, with bone exposure. Laser Treatment  The preset “deep wound” protocol was used to deliver a fluence of 7J/cm² over the affected area with the large off-contact treatment head.
Frequency of Treatment  A total of five treatments were delivered over one month approximately once every
5-9 days.
Other Treatments  Standard of care including clindamycin, ciprofloxacin, carprofen, GenOne spray and SSD ointment. Comments With only five treatments, the wound showed active healing and decreased in surface area from about
6”X2” to 3”X1”.
