🔥🐾 Today is National Pet Fire Safety Day 🔥🐾
According to the Humane Society, more than 500,000 pets are affected by house fires, with 1,000 house fires started by pets themselves. Here are a few tips for both your practice and patients to protect their furry loved ones and their home:
1️⃣ Extinguish open flames like candles and never leave them unattended around curious pets.
2️⃣ Secure loose wires and cords.
3️⃣ Create a pet-friendly escape plan. In case of a fire, make sure your pets can easily find their way out. Keep collars with identification tags on at all times and consider microchipping for added security.
4️⃣ Use flameless alternatives when possible and appropriate. Opt for flameless candles or LED lights.
5️⃣ Pet owners should invest in smoke detectors and pet alert stickers. These stickers will inform firefighters that there are beloved pets inside your home, ensuring their safety during emergencies.
6️⃣ If a burned patient comes into your clinic, Companion laser therapy can be tremendously helpful.
It's a versatile modality that reduces pain and inflammation to provide improved outcomes in burn victims, lung diseases and respiratory disease states, and first-aid situations compared to traditional treatments.
